Programme Outline

Diploma in Science

This full time two year programme is designed to satisfy most of the far-reaching changes in technical education and attempts to meet the increasing demands of technology. Although the primary intention is to train technicians following the GTEE, the standard of the chemistry courses is that of the GCE `A’ Level and an attempt has been made to relate the knowledge gained in any one place to all other places where it is relevant. The main purpose of the Programme is to feed industry with competent technicians, but the course content offers a good opportunity to those students who are aspiring to follow a university education leading particularly to a Degree in Chemistry.

As far as possible, the chemical nomenclature which is based on the rules of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) has been adopted in the syllabus.

Lastly, but by no means least, since there is a great need for scientific method as learnt in the laboratory to be consciously used in everyday life, the relationship of chemistry to other studies and other problems is crated for, thus bridging the gulf which exist between “purpose” and “use”.
